Yale Fishing Club Newsletter - 2015

September 1, 2015

Dear Yale Angler,

The Yale Fishing Club has had an exciting year of fishing adventures, and those stories and photos are enclosed. We hope you enjoy them after the long, cold New England winter.

Pond Improvement

Some great news about the Edward C. Migdalski Pond: Thanks to a generous donation from a close friend of Ed Migdalski (founder of the Yale Fishing Club), we worked hard last summer to install a long-needed aerator in the trout pond. The air compressor is housed in the nearest skeet-target structure, with the air hose tunneled underground and out into the pond. This will increase the health of the pond water and prolong the life of our trout. In fact, the pond went all winter with open-water areas in the middle. But please be careful not to snag your hook on the weighted air hose where it enters the pond (marked on the bank with stakes) and rests there on the bottom.

Opening Day

Opening Day of the Edward C. Migdalski Pond is Saturday, April 4 at 8:00 am. To purchase a membership, complete and return the application on the reverse side. The annual stocking of the pond represents the majority of our budget expenditures each year, and it continues to increase with the price of fuel, labor and trout feed, at a cost to the club in excess of $2,500. Any support in funding for the stocking is greatly appreciated and needed. If you are so inclined and able to contribute toward the trout, please write a separate, tax-deductible check payable to “Yale University–Fishing Club” and mail to the address above. Or if you prefer, you can make a secure, online, tax-deductible donation with your credit card from our website (but please do not use this system for membership dues): www.yale.edu/fishing/Donating

Opening Day will include the usual coffee, donuts, bagels and muffins during the morning, and an assortment of hot pizza, salad, beverages and cookies at 12:00 noon sharp in the Bullock Clubhouse. (Please indicate if you will be attending the lunch on the application form.) 2015 membership applications are on the reverse and due by Friday, March 27th for Opening Day use. The spin-casting option was successful the last two years, and it will again be offered this year. Interestingly, fly-casters continue to outfish spin-casters on Opening Day. Directions, detailed pond hours and regulations will be mailed with your pond membership card.

Tight Lines,

Tom Migdalski, Director Yale Outdoor Education Center and Club Advisor
